Seventh-Day Adventism and Catholicism: Insider Views

Seventh-Day Adventism is a false religion and a cult.  Does your church has solid material to evangelize people lost in that false religion, such as Bible Truths for Seventh-Day Adventist Friends?  It is very interesting to get an inside view on this false religion, and see the struggle between certain aspects of Biblical influence and those who are committed to its corrupt heretical doctrines.  I (relatively) recently watched Seventh Day Adventism at the Crossroads:

where two leading Seventh-Day Adventist theologians exposed as erroneous one of the leading SDA heresies, the Investigative Judgment (if there are significant numbers of SDAs in your area, you should know what that heresy is.)  Unfortunately--but not surprisingly--they were kicked out of their positions in the religion because they were not wiling to hold on to the heresy of the Investigative Judgment and were willing to say that the (false) prophetess Ellen White simply got it wrong on this matter, even while they tried to put their false SDA religion in the best light that they could.  I also watched another video from the same show (the John Ankerberg Show) where the president of the General Conference of Seventh-Day Adventism was interviewed and asked about the same sort of issues that got Dr. Desmond Ford kicked out of his Adventist seminary.  It is instructive to see how this SDA leader sought to dance around the issues asked him by the evangelicals Walter Martin and John Ankerberg--very useful, as you should be ready for a similar dance if you talk to Adventists yourself and seek to give them the gospel.  You can watch this latter video here:

or on Youtube here (it is in five parts).

I absolutely do not endorse the horrible contemporary music played briefly on the shows in the intro and ending of the John Ankerberg show.  Nor do I endorse the deep compromise of men such as Walter Martin and Ankerberg, who are far too willing to recognize Adventists and other cultists as Christians.  Nevertheless, these videos will give you some insight into the Seventh-Day Adventist denomination.  Before watching them I would recommend that you read Bible Truths for Seventh-Day Adventist Friends so that you have some background to this discussion.  Another useful resource (although strongly neo-evangelical, so much so that it considers people in false religions like Lutheranism, that teach baptismal regeneration, true Christians, alongside of people in groups like Community or Bible churches) is Life Assurance Ministries, which has a useful and free magazine exposing Adventism by former Adventists called Proclamation!  (I would recommend the magazine as worth a read for pastors and others in church leadership. but would not want new Christians or other weaker brethren exposed to the neo-evangelicalism in the magazine.)

Another insight of value, in relation to another false religion, Roman Catholicism, is that Catholic news sources have concluded that 50% or even more of Catholic "clergy" are sodomites, and this extremely high percentage of Catholic priestly homosexuals has been verified by secular news sources.  Thus, if you pray for doors of utterance to give the gospel (Colossians 4:3) and God gives you the opportunity to speak to a Catholic priest, keep in mind that he is far, far more likely not only to be involved in a corrupt works-based religion, but he has an extremely high chance of being a sodomite, so in addition to giving him something like Bible Truths for Catholic Friends you might also want to have available a gospel tract such as Truth for Gay Friends. (If you have an opportunity to speak to a priest, you should do it--many, many of them have never heard the gospel.)

If you are truly born-again, thank God for His great mercy to you in delivering you from corrupt false religions like Catholicism and Seventh-Day Adventism, and get as well-equipped as you can to help those caught in these fearful errors using that powerful Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God, to the glory of the Triune Jehovah, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

Kent, I've seen your website before, although have never spent much time here. I was wondering what you and your readers think of the Bible changing recently, mysteriously. For example, "wineskin" being replaced by "bottle". By the way, this has not shaken my faith at all; there is a lot of deception going on right now, but God still reigns. I have yet to see anyone address this issue, other than a few random YouTube videos here and there. I have yet to hear any churches address the issue either, perhaps because it is such a new issue.

My apologies if this doesn't run with the current topic. But I suppose it does in the general sense of deception.

Remember that classic Christian song, "His eye is on the raven?" Of course not, it's sparrow. What happened to Luke 12:24?

Hello. Please pardon me if this is a repeat. I just spend some time writing a question about why our Bibles have literally changes and John 1:27 now talks about a "latchet" instead of "sandals".

Yes, I realize that for anyone reading this who is not aware of this that you have perhaps just freaked out. No, you're not crazy. "Sandals" was always correct. I think we need to address this issue and not run from it or try to explain it away. We are living in days of great spiritual warfare and deception that is greater than ever. Our hope is still in Christ Jesus and this has not shaken me at all. Disturbing and odd? Of course! But shaken my faith at all? Not at all!

The word "gay" was not previously in James 2:3. It was "fine" clothing.

Does this shake my faith? Not at all. But it there something weird going on that is caused be demonic deception? Yes. Do you have a "poor memory"? No. I hope we can get beyond the mocking and treat this as a real issue instead of mocking it and pretending it is not real.

Can anyone explain this well-known children's Bible song? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eu5bBDRpzPM

Why is the song referencing sand when the Bible says "earth" in reference to Luke 6:49? Why are our churches not addressing this?

Dear Anonymous,

I have no idea what you are driving at.

Thanks.

These are interesting comments. Speaking of truth, why has the Bible recently changed from "set you free" to "make you free"? John 8:32

KJB1611, seeing as this site has a lot of people who are familiar with the Bible, and especially the King James Version, I was interested in hearing anyone's explanation for why the KJV has changed in the last few months or so.

For example, for many years Genesis 1:1 said God created the heavens and the earth, now it just says "heaven" in the singular form.

In Matthew 9:17 "wineskins" has recently changed over to "bottles."

John 8:32 has recently changed from the truth shall "set" you free to "make" you free.

Why have these and other changes just been made in the last few months?

Mark 13:10 has changed from "preached" to "published."

I was just wondering if anyone wanted to discuss why these changes have been made all of a sudden when the previous version worked for several hundred years.

Dear KJB1611,

When and why did Luke 17:31 start using "stuff"?

KJB1611 said...

Dear Anonymous,

The KJV has not changed. What are you talking about? Thanks.

Dear KJB,

The Bible is big, so I'm not surprised you may not have seen the changes as of late. Open up a King James Bible and you'll see for yourself.

Let's just start with the very beginning: Genesis 1:1. For the last several hundred years it has said God created the "heavens and the earth." Why has it all of a sudden been changed to the singular format of "heaven and earth"?

When you hear someone sing the well known song "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" next time are you going to request that the words be changed to reflect what is actually in the Bible? His eye is on the raven? Why has Luke 12:24 been translated from "sparrow" to "raven" as of late?

Just look at all the previous comments in this thread and note those verses as well. I don't want to go back and retype all of those references. The only one that is possible one that is questionable is the reference about the foolish man building his house upon the sand. Luke 6:49 talks about the foolish man building his house upon the "earth" and not the sand. Why was that verse changed? Or do I have this one confused with Matthew 7:26, where the reference is to sand? I thought in the older previous version of the King James that BOTH of these references had sand. Or was "earth" always in Luke 6:49?

The word "matrix" is now most well known in Western society as being associated with a movie. Why did the translators all of a sudden start using this word now instead of "womb", which worked just fine for hundreds of years? For example: Numbers 3:12, Numbers 18: 15, Exodus 13:12

In my Bible study group a lot of people use the King James and were just wondering why this version has all of a sudden been updated. Some of the old translations were so well known that even if you were not familiar with the Bible you just knew that phrase. For example, the "chief corner stone" from 1 Peter 2:7. Why as this changed from that well beloved and known phrase to "the head of the corner"?

I still don't get why they changed the first verse of the Bible. Even small children memorize it and know it as the "heavens" and the earth. The other translations have kept it in place, so why did the King James all of a sudden make this change? Most or all of the other versions have kept it as as "heavens"? I'm just wondering why the translators decided the KJV needed to be updated.

Anonymous said...

The chief cornerstone is phrase we all know. Why the change to "the head of the corner" in 1 Peter 2:7. The song "Jesus Is The Cornerstone" will now have to be altered, just like "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" will need to be changed to "His Eye Is On The Raven". It's going to take a lot of work in the music department to get our choirs to learn the new song and not accidentally revert back to "cornerstone".

There are a lot of changes that have been made recently to the King James Bible. There are too many changes to discuss at the moment, but the one that really makes me wonder why they changed it is Genesis 1:1. Practically ALL translations say heavens, as in plural. The King James in the old days said God created the "heavens and the earth." I'm really perplexed as to why thy now decided to go against their own history and make it "heaven" instead of "heavens."

The second one that I really don't understand is why did they all of a sudden think they should start using "matrix" instead of "womb" like it was for hundreds of years? For example, in Exodus 34:19. Everyone knows what a "womb" is. When they switched it to "matrix" it makes us think of a movie. Why did they make this change from a perfectly good word to one that is rather esoteric?

KJB1611, I really don't understand your comments above. There are MANY changes in the King James as of late. I'm not sure what you meant by "the KJV has not changed."

Probably one of the changes that I understand the least is 1 Corinthians 7:5. Why did they change it from "self control" to "incontinency"?

Dr. J Vernon McGee preached a sermon "When Jesus broke the Sabbath". Its worth listening to. My neighbors are 7th day. Craig

Hi anyone interested in 7thDays.
I am astonished at the opening statement of this post. I'm even more astonished that no 7th days responded , or did they?. There were several anonymous posts about translations. Maybe they were disgruntled 7th days over the opening statement.
Look ,7Th days love there KJV Bible. Some people claim Onlyisn had its roots in 7Thdayism. Im not an authority on Adventism I just happen to live near St Andrews College in Berrien Springs Mi.
If you want a invigorating experience go visit a 7ThDay health food store. They have wonderful selections of organic food.
That is what 7ThDays will talk about first is food. Then it will be with Sabbath School.
I used to laugh at their doctrine of rreceiving the mark if the beast if you dont keep the Sabbath. Now I see people really are swept away with this.
The Sabbath controversy is still here.

Pastor Kent, I seen your other posts on Adventism , Im still learning to navigate through your posts. You have done your homework. This blog is like a encyclopedia.
The 7Thdays around me are really nice people and very health conscience. Ive gotten used to seeing them alot , but I can't say I know many of them.
It sure is sad to see how people get caught up in this.
Do you think that some of them are saved? They sure have an unbreakable system of religion.
Thanks again Craig.

KJB1611 said...

Seventh-Day Adventism is indeed a cult; see the "Bible Truths for Seventh-Day Adventist Friends" pamphlet linked in the post. It is great that many of them like the KJV, but so do many Mormons, and such a fact does not remove either of them from cultic status.

If they are saved, we can expect them to leave the SDA religion.

Thanks for the comment.

KJB 1611,
I got into a long discussion with a man from India about Matt 28: 1. He was adamant that verse taught that it read the end of Sabaaths plural. He inferred that God was putting an end to all Sabbath worship. What say you. Thanks Craig

KJB1611 said...

Dear Craig,

Thanks for the question. The word "sabbaton" in Greek is used for both the "sabbath" and for the "week," because the Jews dated the week from the sabbath. If you do a search for the Strong's number associated with the word in Matthew 28:1, you will see it is translated both "sabbath" and "week."

Thus, the argument that "end of the week" is a mistranslation and there is some sort of anti-sabbatarian point here is not exegetically sound. It just means the week ended, just like if you read it in the KJV. I am against the SDA cult, but this is not a good argument to use against them.

Dear KJB 1611,
Thankyou very much for responding back.I read Kent's other post on the mark of the beast and SDA's. You know alot about this false religion.
If you have some spare time theres a 9 minute you tube video that's titled pope Francis calls for Sunday law. Its a SDA video, but do you think its possible that that could happen?. I know the SDA's spend Alot of energy talking about the Catholic church. Should I just not think about the Sunday Law enforcement.
Just as a side note, Im not so offended that my SDA friends worship on Sabbath, but they seem to look down on me for worshipping on Sunday. If you don't have time to watch that video that's fine.
One more thing, is there a mobile version of faith that saves? It seems to be a desktop version on my phone. Thanks Craig

Craig,

Thomas posts here every Friday. All these SDA posts are his. He uses KJB1611, which might confuse people, as he comments here, because they don't know who it is, but he also signs every one of his posts at the bottom with his name. Every Friday, unless it is clearly marked, Thomas Ross.

Unknown said...

Ok, I was wondering who KJB was, if it was Thomas Ross.
I have a burden for SDA's, and Im ashamed that I haven't reached out to them more.

Dear Craig,

There is no mobile version yet of faithsaves.net, but a friend of mine is working on updating the website with me.

I would not listen to SDAs on anything, because it is not just going to be coming from the Bible but also from the allegedly inspired writings of Ellen White. For example, they believe that there is going to be a national Sunday law where people who don't worship on the first day of the week are put to death at the decree of the Pope because of Ellen White – this idea is not in the Bible anywhere. Let's say that the Pope said this right now. Do you really think the governments all over the world would listen to him, and Saudi Arabia, India, Bangladesh, etc. would all say, "okay, let's have a national Sunday law"?

Unknown said...

Dear KJB,
Ok thanks for your time. I get it on the Sunday law. I skim read the Laudatory Si and the pope is trying to "save the earth " for God because all the damage we've done to the planet. My question is do you think the mark of the beast will have something to do with peoples worship? I know your a authority on the book if Daniel that's why I'm asking.
Thanks Craig

Craig or Mr. KB,

Why does the mark of the beast in Revelation 13:16 in the KJV mention the mark "in" the right hand or "in" their foreheads, while all other versions say "on"?

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know why IFB so often talk about "the bride of Christ," specifically referring to Revelations? A lot of versions use the word "bride," although the KJV more often uses the word "wife." For example, Revelations 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

Maybe this is not a big deal, just an observation.

Unknown said...

Anonymous,
I don't know, but the problem of translations will all be solved with the new St Johns bible in the Library of Congress.

KJB1611 said...

Dear Craig,

I think people in the Tribulation period will know what the mark is when the time comes, but before the Rapture it may not be that easy to tell. I'm not letting anyone print anything on my right hand or forehead in any case.

Dear Anonymous,

The Greek word in Revelation 13:16 followed by the genitive case could be translated as either "on" or "in." Both are correct translations.

Dear Anonymous #2,

If you want my thoughts on the bride/wife of Christ, please see the work on that subject here:

http://faithsaves.net/ecclesiology/

I think that there is some fluidity to the Biblical language and that at least one of the main points to the bride/wife language is special closeness.

Thanks.
