2009: Open My Mouth Boldly

December 31, 2008. I have a goal this year to evangelize one person every single day. I can pass out a gospel tract to get that done, but I prefer to talk to someone. The latter is what I want and the former what I'll settle with to reach the goal. To add some accountability, I will write about my evangelism experience every day. It will be found at a new blog called Open Boldly. You may ask: "Another blog? Come on!" Well, I won't be able to reach this goal in front of a computer. This is just very public accountability like Weight-watchers is for weight loss.

My theme verses are Ephesians 6:19-20:
And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
That's where the blog name comes from, the phrase, "open my mouth boldly." We are sanctified by the truth (John 17:17). What God wants is bold proclamation of the gospel. "I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ" (Romans 1:16).

If you want to join me in that goal, let me know there in the comment section. Every day you can comment after my post and let me know how your evangelistic opportunity went!

Great and challenging goal! Great way to usher in the New year.

I have heard of evangelist and preachers strive for that goal. Its a goal that I am not sure is really biblical sound. I have been raised in this atmosphere most of my life. What I have seen is a lot of evangelist talk and a lot of results that last less than a week. And people in the pew will see this as a fruitless ministry.

I trust all of us could speak of Jesus love to those we meet daily.

A friend of mind who works for the County Court system, shook hands with a woman today, who shot and killed three people at point blank range a couple of months ago, and said, "Jesus loves you." That took courage. Amen for him. May we all do that when we have the change. He almost always makes a point when possible to tell those who are criminals, Jesus love you, and you need Jesus. Amen.

Charles,

What isn't scriptural about it? It isn't a goal for a salvation a day. It is a goal for one evangelism a day. I think I'm going to accomplish it by the grace of God.

Agreed. Evangelism: the spreading of Christianity, especially through the activities of evangelists, pastors, teachers, Christians. Great enthusiasm, fervor, or zeal for the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Wouldn't that be great if all of us would renew our commitment to the spreading of the love of Christ the means whereby we can be saved. There are many ways we can do that daily. Right! Maybe we need a list of ways we can do that.

Charles,

How can you say that it is not biblically sound to try and give one person the gospel every day? Could you please list your verses on that one.

I misunderstood Kent's point at first. There are many ways and means to share the gospel. I would love to see Christ bring one person to Himself daily.

You would think a pastor would desire to give the gospel to someone daily. (A radio ministry would do that.) But that is not always possible in reality.

To personally give the gospel to someone daily! I don't see any scriptural command that we should. But that said, I don't see myself making that a goal, I would fail the first week.

What I do desire is to present Christ in some method.
